the BELLWOODS LINEUP
We were asked by Bellwoods Brewery to assist them with their revamped lineup of tap handles. It was a necessity for these handles to be able to show off each style of flavor in the Bellwoods roster. Additionally, they wanted to include interesting functionality within the handles as well.
01 - exploration
I started off with a sketch round laying out different ways that the handle could display multiple types of branding. Some of these options included moving parts, detachable short versions of the handle, & interesting metal work in their hardware.
After pushing the designs through various mixes & matches of other options, we settled on a standard cylinder with designated areas for the brand name & beer artwork. Removable toppers were considered for additional functionality, however this idea was scrapped.
02 - Refinement
Instead of a removable topper, I went with a split functionality between the two halves of the handle. With this, the client & any of their distributers, will be able to use the top half as a short version of the handle where need be. Not all tap lineups are made the same, and some locations require limited height on their handles:
The client also wanted to explore additional options for the ferrule, (the bottom connector piece) before signing off on the official design.
03 - final designs
Below you can find the standardized shape that will be used for Bellwoods' current lineup & any future flavor options:
